In Search of Snow

This winter has not been heavy on the white stuff, at least not to stereotypes for Colorado or our first year a mile high. There was some snow (OK we had a little) and rumor was that there were holiday festivities in Golden. By this point we have most of our Golden routine down. We followed protocol: kids up, snacks packed, car loaded (hopefully a nap en route), and out the door. We rolled into town, found a primo parking spot, and proceeded to duck into a little family friendly coffee shop. Once the kids were juiced up on hot chocolate (and Dad downed another coffee), we headed out to the trail that runs alongside the Clear Creek.

It was sunny but there was still quite a chill in the air. Starting point for the stroll was the tube slide down to the creek. After more than a few races up the stairs and back down the slide, a few statues became more interesting. Hank was all smiles.

It wasn't a one-man show. If Ella could figure it out she'd ride the fish like a horse.

Kissing the lipless?

A warm little man tucked in the stroller.

On to the banks of the Clear Creek (the source of the most important ingredient for the Coors Brewery down stream), under Mom's supervision we would not dare to step onto the snowy ice flows....

So this was the start...then the battery died...we did the loop past the old homesteads and barns (complete with chickens) and enjoyed a PB&J sitting on a bench overlooking the creek. Children ran in fresh air, lunch accomplished, everyone ready for naps...mission accomplished.
