A Sleep Deprived Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving arrived and our family, as a whole, was a bit tired. Dad had initially brought home a bug from work, which worked its way to Mom and led to two little guys with runny noses. On top of that, Jack has not been sleeping straight through the night and Hank has been rising in the 4 o'clock hour each day (with a 50% chance of getting back down). All that said, we certainly have a lot to be thankful for again this year. Just think, last year we were just settling into our house with only two little ones...
We opted to try and have a nice quiet Thanksgiving Dinner. We had an invite to visit the Walsh household for dinner, but with the everyone somewhat sleep deprived we figured it work on what will become our traditional meal dishes.
Dad prepped quite a bit of food on Wednesday night, easing the load for the day. Here Mom works up a corn casserole.
Now, you would think that we would have modified the portions in accordance with the number of adults and picky children...that would have made quite a bit of sense in retrospect. As you can see, we did not bother with that extra step; a full portion of stuffing (not Dad's typically recipe but it did have bacon), a green bean casserole, a corn casserole, a turkey breast (we did not get a giant bird at least) and of course some rolls. You might notice Hank resting his head on the table and you might notice a couple glasses of red wine. Important themes for the evening.
What could possibly get Hank back up to speed? Candles of course! Only a mere 3 weeks past his birthday, Hank determined the candles on the table were birthday candles and proceeded in attempting to blow them out. Everyone was amused as Dad captured the moment for the ages.
Little Jack was relegated to entertaining himself with a spoon and a cracker as everyone ate dinner. Well in reality Hank and Ella were not all that into dinner but Mom and Dad made the most of it.
